Caring for Children CACHE Foundation Award Level 1

About the course:
The CFCC is a Foundation Award in Caring for Children. It introduces you to a career in child care, education and playwork.

The CFCC is an excellent way to kick-start your career in child care, as it teaches you the basics in looking after children. With this knowledge, you will have the confidence to study further courses.

We all know that getting a job can be tricky. On the CFCC, you will learn useful things like how to prepare for a job interview and how to write a letter of application. You might also be sent on a work placement - a brilliant way to boost your CV. And with modules on parenting and first aid, you will gain practical skills to take to the outside world.

Course Content:
The CFCC is made up of seven units. You must finish all seven units to get the full certificate. We also recommend that where possible you do 15 days of work placement.

Below are some of the topics that you'll be studying. Of course in each unit, you'll be learning much more.

Unit 1 - Personal development
This unit focuses on your role in society. It also teaches you how to prepare for a job in child care.

Unit 2 - Human growth and development from birth to old age
When you work with children, it is important to learn how they grow and develop. This unit guides you through the way that a person develops from a child to an elderly person.

Unit 3 - Food and nutrition
What is meant by a "healthy balanced diet"? In this unit you will examine food - how to prepare it for children and why it is important to make it look attractive.

Unit 4 - Health and Safety practices in home and group settings
This unit focuses on the importance of safety for children. It teaches you how to spot potential hazards around the house. You will also learn about hygiene and first aid.

Unit 5 - Care of children
The basic needs of young children are covered in this unit. It shows you how to care for young children of different ages by studying the routine of a child.

Unit 6 - Play and practical activities
Unit 6 is a double unit. Here, you will learn about the importance of play and how it helps the child to grow and develop. You will look at toys and equipment, such as sand and water play.

Unit 7 - Orientation to work programme
The final unit prepares you for working in child care. It helps you decide if you want to continue to the next stage in training.

Assessment:
You will be marked on a tutor assessment, portfolio of tasks, multiple choice question paper and personal action plan.

Progression:
In order to practice in the child care industry, you will need to pass a higher level qualification that assesses your practical work such as CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Child Care and Education. But by taking the CFCC, you have made an excellent start to your career.
