"A carpenter is a craftsman who works wood to make or repair furniture and fixtures. The activity of this craftsman is called carpentry. It is necessary to distinguish between traditional techniques, in which manual tools are used, and modern carpentry, understood as woodworking for the industrial production of artifacts, thanks to machines and modern mechanical equipment. Today the techniques of traditional carpentry are no longer used for the production of commonly used furniture and fixtures, having been largely replaced by machine production. However, traditional techniques are still used, surviving in some specialized fields such as, for example, cabinet making, the production of musical instruments, restoration.
