What is the Certificate in Education (PCET) course?
This is the second year of the Certificate in Education which aims to meet the needs of teachers, lecturers, tutors and trainers who work in the public or private sector either paid or non-paid. It is designed to help practitioners develop and extend their teaching skills, increase their understanding of the teaching and learning experience, and acquire competence in curriculum design and assessment of learning. It is open to practitioners who already hold suitable prior qualifications.

NB: An interview is required before enrolling on this course and is subject to the University of Southampton's general entrance requirements.

Teaching and Learning
Teaching sessions will be interactive, drawing on the academic backgrounds of the students. Lectures, small group work, personal tutorials, directed and self-directed study methods are used, as well as resources such as video, web-based and case studies.

Assessment details
Students are required to complete a set of assignments which are marked on a pass/refer/fail basis. Assessment strategies include tutor marked assignments as well as self and peer assessed assignments. You will be assessed both formally and summatively.

Possible progression to an Education Degree.
