You must enrol on the full programme. Exemptions from this criteria will only apply for students who have previously studied at this centre.

Assessment procedure:
The current method of assessment is by external examination prepared by SQA on behalf of the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.
Single subject certificates are issued for passes in the academic subjects and for a combination of professional subject passes ie General/Motor.
Upon passing the required assessment and an MCA Oral Examination* you will be awarded the Certificate of Competency.
Written examination papers are of three hours duration.

*Please note: You must possess a MCA Notice of Eligibility to apply for an oral examination and undertake the SQA professional subjects.
