As part of an advanced level programme, a minimum of 5 G.C.S.E.s at grade C or above (or the equivalent) including a minimum of grade C in Maths and grade C in English. A grade C or above in GCSE Chemistry or at least B/C in GCSE Core and Additional Science is essential. (GCSE Additional Applied Science is not suitable for this course).

You will develop essential knowledge and understanding of the concepts of chemistry and the skills needed for the use of these in new and changing situations.
AS CONTENT

AS ASSESSMENT

HOW WILL I STUDY?
Lessons will include: note-taking class, discussion, practical work, individual tutorials, past papers and developing key skills. It is recommended that you spend the same number of hours on homework as you do in the class. That means five hours per week. Trips to industry and revision conferences are organised on a regular basis.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

LENGTH OF COURSE
A three-week intensive bridging programme to help with the transition to AS Chemistry will be run at the start of the course. You will be expected to pass this. AS level is one year, followed by a second year for those progressing to A2 level.
WHERE NEXT?
Most students taking A-level chemistry go onto university courses ranging from accountancy to zoology with chemistry being essential for medicine, pharmacy and many other courses.
