Why should I come to Pendleton College?
The course offered at Pendleton has been carefully designed to offer students the maximum chance of success at A-Level. There is a strong emphasis on linking theory with practice and on assessing students' progress through end-of-unit tests.

What will I study?
We follow the OCR A specification. In the first year, you will take three modules:
  • Atoms, Bonds and Groups
  • Chains, Energy and Resources
  • Practical Skills in Chemistry 1
The first two modules are assessed by written exams and account for 80% of total AS marks. The third module is assessed in college and makes up the remaining 20%. If you continue Chemistry to A2 Level, you will take three more modules:
  • Rings, Polymers and Analysis
  • Equilibria, Energetics and Elements
  • Practical Skills in Chemistry 2

What will I achieve?
A-Level chemistry is an essential qualification for higher education courses in fields such as medicine, pharmacy, veterinary science, biology and, of course, chemistry itself. The mental discipline provided by the study of chemistry gives transferable skills that enable students to follow careers in other fields such as law and accountancy.

How is the course assessed?
A-Level Chemistry is a modular course with external examinations held twice a year.

What else will I do?
Students can visit local universities to see and have hands-on experience of advanced equipment and meet practising chemists and their students.
