Our Level 1, 2 and Level 3 Childcare courses prepare you to work in a range of settings with children or young people or to progress to higher education. You will learn through taught classes and activities and a range of work experience placements. You will study a wide range of subjects including child development, care, play and growth. You will also have opportunities to work in the industry and develop your communication skills to prepare you for employment. After the course you can either progress through the levels to Degree level, onto an apprenticeship or find employment in the childcare sector, including early years educator, nursery assistant and special needs assistant. Suitable for those in full or part time learning or employment, it builds the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth up to 19 years. On completion learners will be able to work under guidance, in a wide range of job roles within the childcare sector. You will also develop your interpersonal skills, English and Maths. The course will be delivered at Technology Campus Most applicants will need a minimum of 4 GCSE's at grade D including Maths and/or English,a foundation Diploma, NVQ 1 or satisfactory completion of a foundation learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits. All candidates must be committed to working with young children and their families, be creative, energetic, have a sense of humour and a lively and outgoing personality.
To work with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults, students may need to complete an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service ( Formerly CRB) The college will arrange this for you but if your course is not fully funded (ie; you are aged 16-18 or on certain benefits) then you will have to pay. The estimated cost of the DBS check is £44. Full details regarding payment documents will be provided prior to enrolment.
Due to Statutory Guidelines, If you will be undertaking placements involving caring for children aged under 8, you will need to complete a Disqualifications Requirements questionnaire for yourself and other members of your household. This will be discussed further with you at your interview. On completion learners can progress to various job roles such as assistants in Children's Centres or progress onto the Level 3 Diploma.
