Course programme

Level 3 Certificate: You will attend College for two days per week to complete eight Units that are graded from A*-D and marked by your Unit Tutors. Units include: Child Development Health and Well-being Safeguarding Health, Play & Learning Additional Needs Observation, Assessment and Planning. In addition, you will produce a practical portfolio that assesses your competency in placement. You will also complete an externally marked essay that would be graded A*-D. You will complete two days per week on placements that will be allocated by College and will also complete two block weeks placement per year. You will be visited and observed by your Assessor in each age group. In Year One your placement will most likely be in a children's centre or private nursery where you will complete 65 days within the 3-5 years, 2 years and baby age groups. Level 3 Diploma: You will attend College for two days per week to complete a further seven Units that are graded from A*-D and marked by your Unit Tutors. Units include: Literacy, Mathematics, Assessment for Learning, Partnership Working, International Perspectives and Professional Development In addition, you will produce a second practical portfolio that assesses your competency in placement. You will also complete an externally marked essay that will be graded A*-D. You will complete two days per week on placements that will be allocated by College and will also complete two block weeks placement per year. You will be visited and observed by your Assessor at least twice. In Year Two your placement will most likely be in a school where you will complete 65 days in Key Stage One followed by nursery or reception. Level 3 Award only: You will complete two Units on Child Development and Health & Well-being and complete some placement experience while also working towards English and Mathematics qualifications.
