CHILDCARE (CACHE Diploma Level 2)

Why should I come to Pendleton College?
Students will benefit from highly-qualified, experienced and dedicated staff who have worked in schools, nurseries and the health service. Students will also have full use of attractive base-rooms with a wide variety of resources. Each student will experience quality practical training from our excellent network of work placements in schools and nurseries.

What will I study?
To gain the Diploma at Level 2, the candidate must complete and pass six mandatory units and one optional unit. The mandatory unit titles are:
  • An introduction to working with children
  • The developing child
  • Safe, health and nurturing environments for children
  • Children and play
  • Communication and professional skills
  • The practitioner in the workplace (assessed practical unit)
The optional unit can be chosen from a selection provided.

What will I achieve?
The CCE is a recognised childcare qualification and can be used to work as a nanny, au pair or nursery assistant, however it is also used to help progression to the NVQ Level 3 or to the Diploma in Childcare & Education.

How is the course assessed?
All six units are assessed through national assignments. There will be a multiple choice question test at the end of the course covering all the units. Practical skills will be assessed and students must complete a minimum of 65 days working with children. Students must present a portfolio of work.

What else will I do?
Students will take part in a work placement twice a week which will be monitored and assessed as a requirement of the course. There are many opportunities to take part in enrichment activities such as trips to London, Euro Disney, the theatre, cinema and many more. Various charitable events take place throughout the year and many guest speakers such as Barnardos come to visit.
