This course is suitable for students who have studied Chinese for about one term. The course concentrates on pronunciation, listening and speaking with limited Chinese character recognition. The course will continue to follow the text book 'Chinese in Steps Vol 1' by George X Zhang but will be supplemented by simple authentic written and spoken texts. The course feeds into Beginners Level 3.

Your Course
This course is suitable for students who have studied Chinese for about one term. The course concentrates on pronunciation, listening and speaking with limited Chinese character recognition. The course will continue to follow the text book'Chinese in Steps Vol 1'by George X Zhang but will be supplemented by simple authentic written and spoken texts.
The course feeds into Beginners Level 3 (Summer Term 2010).
During this course students will take a short internal assessment in speaking a/or listening. This will help them prepare for the OCR Asset language test that will be taken at the end of the first year of study.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Talk about yourself and your family, and ask about someone else's family.
· Ask and respond to questions regarding one's occupation.
· Go shopping, including asking prices, explaining what you want to buy and bargaining.
· Order food and drinks.
· Express some emotions.
· Ask for directions.
· Buy tickets [train, bus and cinema]
Your Tutor
Ying Liang is a native Mandarin Chinese speaker. She has been teaching Mandarin Chinese to post 16 international students with different academic backgrounds at Hills Road Sixth Form College since 2006 and is an accredited teacher in Asset Languages. She has an award for PTTLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) from Hills Road Sixth Form College.

Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
