Complementary therapies are used to support the treatment of more than 12 million adults in the UK each year. The potential economic benefits of complementary therapies are also attracting large pharmaceutical companies such as GlaxoSmithKline. The 2015 Nobel Prize was awarded to Professor You You Tu who found the active compound from a Chinese herbal medicine Artemisia to treat malaria.
