About this course
Explain simply some of the key ideas in Chinese philosophy with reference to several thinkers.Evaluate simply the ongoing significance of Chinese philosophical thought.
No other costs. Participants may wish to take notes with pen & paper, laptop or tablet according to their preference.
The course will run, in the main, in a ‘seminar’ format with brief tutor presentations followed by Q&A and opendiscussion. There may be some small-group formats for discussion based on topics arising from the short readings. All slides used will be available online for later reference.

Course programme
The main ‘schools’ and their differences: Confucian, Mohist, Daoist, Yin-Yang, Names, Legalist, Chan & Chinese Buddhism with some consideration also of ‘Maoism’ - the emphasis will, however, be on the key philosophical concepts associated with these schools.
The key thinkers associated with the schools, for example: Confucius, Mencius, Mo Tzu, Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu, Hui Shih, Han Fei Tzu, Lin ji.
