Entry RequirementsIt is recommended that students have previously completed Applying Engineering Principles Level 2 or equivalent or have relevant industrial experience.
Course Content
The qualification comprises of six modules.
Common Essential Modules

·Working effectively and safely in an engineering environment
·Engineering Principles and Practice
·Principles of Fabrication and Welding

Optional Modules any three from

·Manual Metal Arc Welding
·Metal Inert Gas (MIG)Welding
·Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding
·Sheet Metalwork Fabrication
·Pattern Development

Attendance: One day per week for 2 years.

How will I be assessed?
Assessments are undertaken in two areas
Practical - where students are required to produce practical qualifying tasks and assignments.

Written - where students undertake written examinations in technology.

Certification - upon completion of all of the elements, successful candidates are awarded a certificate in engineering level 3 (Fabrication and Welding)

The course may also be used to contribute to the criteria for the N/SVQ in Engineering level 3 (1681-1689).

What can I do next?
Progression towards EDEXCEL (BTEC) Higher National Certificate in Engineering or for those wishing to develop their welding expertise they may choose to progress towards further welding skills and/or welding approval under American, British or European Standards.
