The course will introduce you to the skills required to photograph various objects, process them digitally and output web or print-ready files. You will get to experiment with simple studio set-ups using studio lights (both flash and continuous), try out editing software, and learn useful processing techniques such as cut-outs.

About this course
- photograph still life objects using simple studio lighting- capture images directly into a computer- process the images for accurate colour and contrast etc- remove minor blemishes from the images- output images to an appropriate file format (TIFF, JPEG, GIF or PSD)- remove the background of an image, also known as a cutout (for use as an element in a web site or page layout).
Please bring your digital camera if you have one, and some still life objects to photograph (although as you will be working in small groups it may not be possible to photograph everything). You may also wish to bring a notebook and pen. City Lit has a range of digital SLR cameras, tripods and lenses which you are welcome to use during the hours of the class. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note that PC-formatted hard drives can be read by Apple Macs, but not written to) .If you would like to buy art materials for your personal...
You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. You'll be working in small groups to set up several product photographs. Please note we will be working on Apple Mac computers in the Photography studio.

There are many other sophisticated techniques for complex objects which unfortunately we can't squeeze into a short course, but hopefully we will inspire you to go on and expand your new skill-set.
