About this course

- Demonstrate all aspects of clarinet technique at an elementary level- Sight-read music at a basic level- Develop greater confidence in simple improvisation- Play in an ensemble.

Please bring your own Bb clarinet, supply of reeds, and a pencil.Required text Jonathan Rutland, Abracadabra Clarinet 3rd ed. [c.£10 incl CD]. This book is used throughout Clarinet level 2 courses.The course also draws on repertoire from Easy Clarinet Duets by James Rae.The tutor will provide other musical material. Course programme

The course covers more advanced aspects of clarinet technique at Grade 3–4 standard
- Breathing, articulation, fingering, tone etc.
- Music notation, including more complex rhythmic patterns
- Grade 3 standard repertoire, solo and ensemble
- Individual repertoire as advised by the tutor.


Classes will comprise tutor explanation and demonstration, group and individual playing.
Sessions will also include class discussion, aural skills and theoretical study.
To make progress you will need to practise regularly outside class (ideally at least 20 minutes on least 4 days per
week).

Additional information


You should be ready to progress to Clarinet level 3 next academic year.
You may also be interested in general musicianship, music theory or music appreciation to enhance your general
musical skills.
