About this course

- Demonstrate improved aspects of clarinet technique- Interpret a wider variety of music- Demonstrate improved reading skills- Demonstrate progress in the art of ensemble playing.

You need your own Bb clarinet and supply of reeds. Music will be supplied and recommended by the tutor, usually one or two printed books (approx. cost £10 each).Have you read our guide to local music shops and choosing instruments? Course programme

- All aspects of clarinet technique - breathing, articulation, fingering, tone etc - to approximately grade 3 or 4 standard
- The art of interpretation will be developed
- Explore a variety of repertoire, solo and ensemble, in a variety of styles.


Classes will comprise tutor explanation and demonstration, group playing and individual practice (please bring your own instrument). Sessions will also include class discussion, aural skills and theoretical study.
To make progress you will need to practise regularly outside class (ideally at least 20 minutes on least 4 days per week).

This course leads to Clarinet level 3: module 3 next term.
Chamber music: intermediate offers the opportunity to learn how to play with others in small ensembles. You may also be interested in City Lit's wide range of Practical musicianship, Music theory, or Music appreciation courses.
