Reading Greek by the Joint Association of Classical Teachers, 2nd edition, CUP, 2 vols (Grammar and Exercises, ISBN 978-0521698528; Text and Vocabulary, ISBN 978-0521698511; Independent Study Guide, ISBN 978-0511800689). Some copies are available in the Learning Centre for use during this course.
The course is based on the traditional approach, but aims also at a high level of student interaction with some pair and group work. Please note that students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do 2-3 hours homework per week.

Course programme
We shall start by becoming more familiar with basic grammar concepts and after that we will start with the Greek alphabet. We shall be using the textbook Reading Greek (2nd edition, 2 vols), a textbook designed for adult beginners, based on original Greek sources. We shall start at section 1A. Students will read adapted passages from works by Plato, Aristophanes etc. Reading will be combined with grammar instruction and grammatical exercises. We shall be studying the conjugation of verbs, the declension of nouns and adjectives, prepositions and adverbs.
