About this course

- read and write simple Greek sentences- have some insight into the derivation of English words- have some insight into the world of Ancient Greece- demonstrate basic knowledge of conjugation of verbs- demonstrate basic knowledge of some declensions of nouns and adjective.- demonstrate basic knowledge of some clauses.

Some copies are available in the Learning Centre for use during this course.

Course programme

We shall be using the textbook Reading Greek, a textbook designed for adults learners based on original Greek sources, including adapted passages from works by authors such as Plato and Aristophanes. Reading will be combined with grammar instruction and grammatical exercises. We shall be studying the conjugation of verbs, the declension of nouns and adjectives, etc.


The course is based on the communicative approach and aims at a high level of student interaction with pair and group work. The pace will be fast and challenging but fun. Please note that students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do 2-3 hours homework per week.
