An appreciation coffee; a focus on the coffee beans history and production, where they come from and how to roast, serve and drink good coffee. This will include information on the importance of different growing, roasting and brewing techniques.

About this course

Recognize and understand the difference between the production and drinking methods of coffee
- Identify the characteristics of different types of coffee from different world regions
- Understand the difference between all of the different coffee shop drinks eg espresso, macchiato, latte, cappuccino, flat white
- Understand how to brew good coffee at home.
- Appreciate the roles and importance of baristas and roasters.

No other costs. You may wish to bring a pen and notebook.

- Short talk and discussion
- Practise tasting to compare a number of coffees.
- Some pair work
- Please bring a notepad to take notes on coffees tasted.
- No work outside of the class needed.

Course programme

The growing, production and consumption of coffee around the world.
We shall taste single origin coffee from Ethiopia, Brazil, India, Rwanda and Guatemala. We will be examining the beans and what to focus on when ‘cupping’ coffee.
We will look at the difference and impact of brewing conditions when making coffee.
Alongside the tasting we will also look at coffees journey around the world to become one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world.
