Is this course right for me?

This course develops an understanding of the fabric and social structure of Britain through a sociological, historical, legal and psychological context. No prior subject knowledge is required.

What will I be learning?

You will study two compulsory modules: Introduction to Research Methods and their Applications to Memory and Twentieth Century Britain.
You also have a choice of four option modules from:
Sociology: Sociology Imaginations; Social Transformation.
Law: English Legal System; Legal Writing Skills.
Criminal Studies: Criminal Justice Process; Criminology & Crime Problems.
History: What is History?
Psychology: Developmental & Clinical Psychology.

How will I learn?

Teaching and learning methods include lectures, tutorials, practical workshops and presentations. The programme is based on student-centred learning through which you develop a full approach to and take responsibility for your own learning. Throughout the course, you receive tuition and guidance from module leaders and personal tutors will provide regular individual tutorials and advise on progress and learning strategies. You will be assessed through: group and individual presentations; essays; case studies; reports and examinations.

What else might I want to know?

The course provides an opportunity for you to meet like minded people with an interest in the Social Sciences. You will need to purchase text books.

What can I do afterwards?

You could progress to year two and three at the University of Plymouth and study for a combined degree in the Social Sciences.
