The Commercial Director is responsible for the implementation of a company's commercial policies. His task is to optimize the effect of sales and target the products of the company he works for within the most profitable markets. His role is decisive in all companies, especially in market-oriented ones, which, in order to sell well, use both commercial and marketing policies. The purpose of these commercial policies is to make the product visible to the final consumer. The Commercial Director has the task of achieving the strategic objectives of the company with the financial, instrumental and human resources at his disposal. To achieve these objectives, this essential professional figure draws up action plans by means of which he establishes how to use the resources at his disposal and defines the incentive policies of the sales force, giving operational indications to the other components of the sales network. He must then be able to verify the effectiveness of the action plans implemented, by evaluating the performance of the sales structure. Consequently, a good Commercial Director must have in-depth knowledge of business economics and possess the ability to analyze data and manage the budget of the company he works for. The profile is completed by a predisposition to problem solving and knowledge of at least one foreign language, for any relations with foreign markets. The activities of the Commercial Director vary according to the size of the company in which he is inserted: in the smaller companies, the promotion of products, the study of the reference markets and the definition of commercial strategies are also part of his duties. In more complex contexts, however, it is the Area Manager or the Key Account who carry out these tasks.
