I think the most important thing for every PhD-student is to have a supportive and knowledgeable supervisor. Thus I would strongly advice to be in contact with the prospective supervisor before starting the programme, and if possible to visit the faculty. Cardiff University is a thriving university in a charming and lovely city. It's academic reputation is excellent.
