This short, university credit bearing course is ideal for practitioners who are specialising in integrating insights and skills from CBT within their current practice.
About this course
Be able to provide evidence of previous study at Level 5 or above in a related subject area including but not limited to health and social care, social work, health promotion or youth work
Be a health care professional with access to an environment where you will be able to apply your skills to achieve the individual module learning outcomes. This does not specifically need to be employment and could include voluntary work
Offset module credits towards BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Top-Up)
If you are a registered nurse but do not have a degree qualification, once you’ve completed this module you could offset the 20 credits through recognised prior learning (RPL) towards our online BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Top-Up) degree. This would reduce the number of modules you would need to study and the total cost of the course.
Alternatively, if you are a health and social care practitioner you may wish to offset the 20 credits by progressing to the online BSc (Hons) Integrative Health and Social Care (Top-Up) degree.

Course programme
In this specialist module you will choose one of the contemporary approaches within CBT to focus upon, such as: Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) (using the materials created by Professor Paul Gilbert, the founder of CFT) or Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). You will study the approach in some depth and consider the contribution that it has made to our understanding of human problems and distress. This is ideal for practitioners who are specialising in integrating insights and skills from CBT within their current practice.
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
- Critically analyse the contribution that one area of contemporary CBT approaches has made to our understanding of human problems
- Apply skills and theoretical insights from an area of contemporary CBT approaches into their practice
