2. Course description This course will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to progress to higher level study in countryside and environment related fields, or to secure direct employment within the industry.You will undertake a wide range of practical activities on the Lackham campus, from species surveying to tree planting and coppicing. You will also be involved in managing the college's extensive farm and estate in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside.Lackham's woodlands are a versatile resource managed to demonstrate timber production, recreation, education, game production and wildlife conservation. Game and wildlife resources are typical of a lowland estate and include a small shoot, all of which are used to demonstrate good practice and provide a platform for practical skills development by offering a realistic hands-on experience. We also have links with a number of local employers that can provide work and training opportunities to further experience the diverse and exciting range of countryside management work.One of the requirements of the course is that you must successfully complete a period of assessed work experience between the two years.

3. Entry requirements 4 GCSEs grade A*-C in English, Maths and preferably Science or equivalent (or Merit or Distinction in a related subject at Level 2) A good referenceA satisfactory interview 4. Equipment required You will need to supply your own protective clothing such as waterproof coat, overalls, leggings, safety wellingtons/work boots and gloves.Structured visits and field trips are an important feature of this course. You will need to meet the costs of travel and ticket entry. 5. Assessment method You may prefer to complete written assignments at home or in the College Learning Resource Centre, although study periods are timetabled into the college day.You will study a total of 18 units to achieve the Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification. Each unit will be assessed by a combination of written assignments, class exercises and practical assessments.The final qualification will be a Level 3 90 Credit/Extended Diploma in Countryside Management.
