Do you want to learn how to create a beautiful and personal style of cursive handwriting? We will begin by writing a simple italic alphabet first with a gel pen and then an italic fountain pen. We will look at examples of handwriting from the 15th century to the present day to see how the letterforms can inspire and inform your work.

Course programme

• Writing a simple cursive alphabet
• Writing with an italic fountain pen.

During the class there will be group and individual demonstrations. You will be given examples and worksheets which enable you to develop at your own pace. It will be beneficial if you can do some practice between sessions. No equipment is needed for the first session. However, you will need to provide or purchase an A3 folder for handouts and worksheets. Advice will be given about tools and materials if you wish to progress to further study.

The Calligraphy department runs a wide range of courses. Your tutor will be happy to advise you on suitable courses in the main 2018/19 programme according to your level and interests.
