About this course

This course is for school leavers aged 16-18 years. A genuine interest in the subject is the only requirement for entry. If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS score of 4.5 or above.

Art & Design - Creative Crafts NCFE Foundation Certificate

Level: Level 1

Course content:
This is a two week full time course running during the College Summer School. If you successfully complete the course you will be awarded a NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Creative Craft. The course provides you with a basic understanding of art and design subjects which relate to industry career progression opportunities. Further guidance will provided throughout the course.
It will introduce you to a wide range of techniques and methods in your chosen subject area, allowing you to experiment and explore, and to express your ideas in a variety of media. It will give you some experiences in new subjects too. It is an ideal opportunity if you're interested in applying for a full-time design course, or have already been accepted onto one and want to get some experience before your start. The course will encourage and support you to develop skills and knowledge in your chosen subject option.
The course will include a range of design skills explored in Fine Art, Spatial and 3D design, Digital Imaging, Fashion and Textiles. It is a good introduction to life in the School of Creative Industries, Art and Design Section and can help you to prepare for entry to one of our full-time courses. The course is practical, fun and will include:
-Skills workshops
-Materials, techniques processes
-Developing research skills
-Developing your ideas
-Presentation techniques
The specialist skills, materials and equipment that students use in art and design will be demonstrated, and you will have the opportunity to use them in your own work within a healthy and safe environment.

Course Structure:
10 full working days 9-5.
All participants must attend each full day.
upon completion of the course you could choose one of our other part-time certificates in art and design, starting in September.

Course resources:
You will need to bring an A4 sketchbook with a good quality cartridge paper in it, HB, 2H, 2B, 5B pencils, and a USB and a pen.

Assessment:
Continual assessment based on practical and written work completed during the 10 days. Students will present a portfolio of work for internal and external assessment.

Next step:
An NCFE Intermediate Certificate in Creative Crafts, BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art and Design, BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design or National Diploma in Art and Design depending upon entry requirement.

Fees Info
The fee where stated is an 'INCLUSIVE FEE' for UK/EU students. This fee includes the tuition fee, examination fee and exam board registration fee. You may have to pay extra for materials for the course. If you are under 19 years or you are in receipt of an income related benefit the course and exam fee is FREE. Students aged 60+ years pay 70% of this fee. Students aged 19+ will also have to pay a College Registration Fee of £30 (or £20 if you receive benefit) once per academic year.Materials costs:
The tutor will advise you about any materials costs.
