What can this course offer me?
An opportunity to develop the kinds of skills that university admissions tutors love - achieving an AS in a subject that will help you analyse and develop your own arguments. You will also develop skills on assessing evidence that people use and evaluating their arguments to decide how strong they might be. These kinds of skills obviously help in other subjects as well!
We cover exactly the kind of material that universities use for admissions tests. For example, the admissions tests for subjects such as Law and Medicine are heavily based on Critical Thinking. Doing AS Critical Thinking should really help if you are going to do these kinds of tests.

What will I learn?
One hour and a half lesson a week with excellent and lively teaching that should help you do well in the exams! As the subject is very much about developing your skills, the lessons tend to focus on you actively practicing these skills rather than learning new material. A typical lesson will range from intriguing lateral thinking puzzles to using Youtube clips to help you form your own arguments.

What Makes a good Critical Thinking student?
An interest in logic and reasoning and the kinds of precise language that can be used in arguments. You do not need to have studied Critical Thinking before. AS Critical Thinking is particularly suitable for students with high GCSE points scores.

Which other courses link well with this subject?
Critical Thinking is an Enrichment subject so you do it alongside other subjects. The skills particularly overlap with Law, History, Philosophy, English and the logical nature of the subject means that Maths and Science students also do very well.

Future Opportunities
Critical Thinking develops the kinds of skills that top universities love to see. For example, the University of Cambridge say that it is "an attractive addition to any applicant's portfolio of qualifications". The University of Durham say that "we find that it prepares students in many of the skills they will need in higher education, such as constructing an academic argument, negotiating and analysing information". As such, Critical Thinking looks good on UCAS applications, as well as preparing you for university admissions tests.
