Becoming a fitness instructor is the first step into an industry with a variety of exciting and challenging occupations. You could work in Local Authority facilities, the private sector and nationally recognised Health and Fitness clubs. Based in RNC's new Sport and Complementary Therapy Centre you will work alongside qualified and experienced staff and assist them in training and supervising fellow learners and members of the public.

Specialist Resources

In April 2009, RNC opened its state of the art, multi-million Sport and Complementary Therapy Centre, which has dedicated facilities solely for the purpose of vocational training in Sport and Complementary Therapy. Additional facilities in offer include: a public gym, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, fitness pool with resistance training facility and indoor and outdoor futsal pitches.

This qualification is particularly relevant for those people seeking to increase their knowledge base and existing skills as a fitness instructor. The course allows people to develop the knowledge needed to pursue a career in personal training.

Training covers:
- Detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- How to plan and conduct a safe progressive programme/advanced session
- Effective communication and how to build successful relationships with clients and other health care professionals
- How to manage, evaluate andimprove own performance
Units may include:

· Advanced resistance training

Advanced Additional professionally recognised qualifications on offer at RNC include:

1. Emergency First Aid Certificate
2. The Football Association Child Protection Certificate.

Work placement opportunities
You will gain first-hand experience of working with all ages and abilities when you take on the role as fitness instructor in the College's fitness facilities, where you will supervise members of the public. Learners are also encouraged to participate in an external work placement in your home area.

What next?
Training allows the opportunity for progression into employment within the Fitness Industry, or for further study within Further/Higher Education in a related field.
