Course programme

Through technique classes, choreography workshops, rehearsals and theory sessions, you will develop your skills as both a choreographer and performer and as a dancer who understands their own practice. In addition you will broaden your knowledge of professional dance and extend your critical skills.

In the first year practical work includes a solo choreography and performance and performance as part of a duet or trio. In the second year the focus is on group choreography and the performance of a quartet in addition to a solo performance.

Over two years critical engagement with areas of study and choreographers and their works will develop your knowledge and understanding of dance through time. In addition, trips to see live dance will support and inform your practice.

  • You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses, which are based on your GCSE results.
  • In addition, you must achieve a grade B or above in GCSE Dance and successfully pass a pre-course audition. If you have not taken GCSE Dance but have extensive experience in the subject, this may be accepted as an alternative. We will discuss this with you at a formal interview prior to full enrolment.

International students:

  • Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.
  • IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill) or equivalent.

In both years, assessment is by practical demonstration during coursework and a written exam. Successful completion of the first year gains you an AS Level in Dance. Successful completion of the second gains you an A2 Level in Dance.

Taken with a complementary course such as A2 Level Drama, this could be your ticket to studying Dance or Drama at Higher Level.
