Decorative Occupations (Painting & Decorating) NVQ Level 2

Course Overview
This course is aimed at those wishing to gain a nationally recognised qualification for work as a Painter & Decorator in the Construction Industry. All Craft Qualifications are in units. There are two forms of the qualification:

1. Diploma Level 2
2. NVQ Level 2

Candidates wishing to gain the NVQ must be employed in the trade

Course Structure
The course is over 2 years with attendance at college for 1 day a week

The course consists of six mandatory and one optional unit. The following areas are covered:

• Surface preparation
• Application of paints
• Paperhanging
• Basic access platforms
• Preparing a workstation
• Efficient working practices
• Special paint techniques(optional)

Relevant Health & Safetyissues are covered throughout the course. On site work experience is an integral part of the course.

Qualification Aims
The main aim of this course is to provide a qualification to people who require it to further their own learning experiences inside or out of the workplace.

Assessments/Examinations
Assessment is carried out continuously and is based on achievement of the requirements for each unit leading to the qualification. Candidates achieve at their own pace. There is no end examination.
