About this course
As part of an advanced level programme, a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (or the equivalent) and a minimum of Maths or English at grade D. Grade C in English and/or Maths are desirable but not essential. Grade C or above in GCSE Art & Design or Design Technology is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

LENGTH OF COURSE
AS level is one year, followed by a second year for those progressing to A2 level.

Art and Design at Gateway has an excellent reputation for their courses. Many students progress onto the Foundation diploma in Art and Design through to H.N.D. and BA (Hons) degree courses.
3D-Design is a subject which embraces wide ranging skills preparing students for higher education studies, ranging from Engineering to Craft, Design, Arts and Media.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The course aims to provide skills which are crucial for development and progression in 3D-Design. Drawing skills and interest in 3D Media is important.
AS CONTENT
Drawing and painting
Rendering skills
Research and development of ideas (use of sketchbooks)
Study of artists craftspersons and designers
Introduction and development of techniques in jewellery, body or nament and sculpture
AS ASSESSMENT
2 portfolios of practical coursework â€" worth 60% of the total AS marks
1 externally set project â€" worth 40% of the total AS marks
A2 CONTENT
AS content will be extended further plus students will be expected to produce a written study of a relevant artist/craftsperson/designer or movement.
A2 ASSESSMENT
From AS:
2 portfolios of practical coursework 30%
1 externally set practical project 20%
A2:
1 portfolio of practical coursework 15%
1 personal study 15% 1 externally set practical project 20%
HOW WILL I STUDY?
Practical work is project based and will involve a variety of media. An independent attitude to study is essential as research and personal development of ideas is an integral part of this course. You will be expected to generate ideas through the use of sketchbooks. There is much to do within a short time frame. All coursework is carried out in a purpose-built design studio with access to a wide range of jewellery making and sculpture facilities.
