This course will develop confidence in handling a variety of drawing materials, including paint, collage and mixed media, on location and from collected resources. Students will explore techniques, such as mark-making, drawing and surface texture. They will be encouraged to develop subject matter and ideas, leading towards a personal composition by the end of the course. Work may be abstract or figurative.

About this course

• Practice drawing and mixed-media techniques for sketching
• Draw, photograph or collect visual material.
• Explore ideas for composition.
• Create a personal composition or a series of related imagery.

You will be required to bring one A4 sketchbook, for the course. Book bound or spiral, portrait or landscape with good quality cartridge paper is appropriate. Any other sketchbooks you may have, of a different scale or surface, (such as watercolour) can also be used. All materials will be supplied, but if you have additional drawing or colour materials you would like to try, please bring them along.
