About this course
- Demonstrate an awareness of space and form when planning a composition
- Recognise the use of compositional structure
- Identify appropriate medium and mark making qualities for your drawings.
The course fee covers the basic materials such as cartridge paper, pencils, charcoal, inks and paint. If you have favourite drawing pens etc or would like to use specialist paper then please bring these with you. An A5/4 - small hardback notebook/sketchbook will also be useful this week.

Sessions are studio based on Days 1 - 3, on Day 4 and Day 5 they are split between working on location and in the studio. Examples of techniques and materials will be shown, demonstrated and discussed.
Handouts and images of artists work will be used to introduce the practical activities.
These practical activities will be set using a variety of techniques designed to help you break out of old habits and extend your skills. Practical work will involve drawing from observation whilst using a variety of materials including charcoal, chalk and ink.
These will be supported by one-to-one guidance and an informal review at the close of the session.

Day 1: Space and Form - Line
Day 2: Space and Form - Tone
Day 3: Space and Form - Scale
