What is a Development Centre?

A powerful 2-day event which:

  • will assess talented employees across the organisation in order to drive through higher performance
  • involves the practical application of defined competencies
  • identifies key strengths and areas for future development planning for individuals
  • provides a focused perspective of collective strengths and development needs of the participating group

Why a Development Centre?
Organisations are increasingly being expected to reach higher levels of performance. Apart from reorganising and improving the efficiency of core processes, the most effective and sustainable way to improve performance is through harnessing the talent of key individuals. At the heart of managing talent is the ability to unlock potential in employees, both current and future, by connecting them with the organisation’s strategy and goals; and developing the values, beliefs, skills and behaviours required to make a difference. Development Centres help to make this happen.

Participants work in project teams to put together a proposal for an exciting development project. They also undertake some individual activities which are integrated into the overall project picture. Skilled observers provide “hot” or real-time feedback along the way and participants leave with a competence based feedback report highlighting behaviours which were effectively demonstrated and points to consider regarding their future development. Self review and peer review add to the rich picture of feedback that can then be easily used for focused development planning.

A summary of overall competence is also provided to allow for development planning at departmental or organisational level.
