Course Summary:
The Diploma in Hotel Management (L4) aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the operational aspects of the international hotel industry, and knowledge of the underlying principles involved. This course has been designed in that students will study at an ATHE centre for no less than 290 hours.
Work experience is recommended to complete this course successfully. This can be arranged in some regions such as London but a fee may be payable.


Course Syllabus:
Mandatory Units
  • Introduction: Scope and Nature of Hotel Management
  • Staff Management in Hotels
  • Food and Beverage Operations
  • Marketing
Optional Units - choose any two
  • Housekeeping
  • Hotel Finance
  • Facilities and Accommodation Operations
  • Front Office Operations


Entry Routes: Level 4 - A certificate level qualification or equivalent is the entry requirement for this course.


Tutors: The tutors are professionally qualified and have vast knowledge and practical experience.


Assessment:
Students will be assessed on a continual basis. Students will need to complete 4 mandatory units and 2 optional units. A folder will be kept and records kept of all work and tests undertaken during the course. Tests will be done after each unit, some of which may be practical subject to centre programme. Centres will have flexibility here but it would be advisable to check with awarding body initially. Before the Certificate or Diploma is provided the coursework will need to be moderated by ATHE.An examination will be held at end of course. Weighting for coursework and exam will be 70/30.


Progression:
Students who have succesfully completed this course can progress to a Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management (accreditation for this is in process). Top up degree is being arranged with specific universities.
