Is this course for me?
This course is for teachers who have already completed the
Cambridge ESOL DELTA and want to be fully qualified to teach in the
learning and skills sector. This course covers the main government
policies which have influenced adult education in recent years and
how these are reflected in ESOL provision. Teaching basic literacy
and using ICT are also covered.
What will I study?
This course covers the generic content of a Diploma in Teaching
in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) in post-compulsory
education and the LLUK ESOL Subject Specifications. Students learn
about the main government policies which have influenced adult
education in recent years and how these are reflected in ESOL
provision. Aspects of English grammar, lexis and phonology will be
studied in greater depth than on the CELTA and methodology will be
reviewed from the perspective of key theories in Second Language
Acquisition research. There will be an introduction to teaching
literacy and to applications of e-learning in the ESOL curriculum.
The course also includes many workshops focusing on classroom
practice.

What are the entry requirements?
You will need to have already passed CELTA or have an equivalent
qualification and be employed in the Learning and Skills
Sector. You will attend a course briefing meeting and complete
an assessment of your skills.
How will I be assessed?
You must complete 150 hours of teaching practice. A minimum of 6
lessons will be observed by a course tutor. There are a number of
written assignments and an oral presentation.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
