About this course
Candidates must be working with a group of learners, in a Post 16 teaching and learning environment teaching literacy (communication) skills. All applicants will have to show that their own literacy skills of speaking and listening, reading and writing are at a minimum of level 3. (NQF) Initial assessment activities will include: · Interview · Written task completed and brought to the interview · Reading and writing task completed under supervised conditions on the same day as the interview

Course content:

Assessments:
Assessment requirements are met by completing assignments, producing a log of literacy teaching with learners, and by tutor-observed sessions. Candidates will be expected to carry out a research project .
The certificate is awarded through University of Sunderland.
Teachers must have the Certificate/ Professional Graduate Certificate in Education and Training (Post-Compulsory) and must be teaching literacy (communication) at more than one level of the Adult Literacy Core Curriculum for a minimum of 75 hours during the course.
A minimum of 70% of your teaching must be with groups.

Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills
In order to achieve qualified teacher status as endorsed by LLUK ( Lifelong Learning UK), you must complete the Certificate in Education / PGCE before or at the same time as you complete the Diploma in Teaching English ( Literacy).
