Course programme

What qualifications do I need?

You need to have three GCSE subjects grade A*-C in English, Maths and Science and be employed in a relevant job role.

What’s involved?

The practical training will involve installation of radiators, boilers, hot water systems, control systems and cold water systems using copper, steel and plastic. The theory training will involve central heating design, installation and maintenance, hot and cold water systems design, installation and maintenance, heating system controls, gas and oil awareness, principles of electricity and material and processes selection.

How will I be studying?

A Level 2 NVQ in Plumbing and Heating would normally take about two years to complete dependant on the level of work put in by the candidate. During this time you will be working at your place of employment and you will be required to attend College for day release.

Where can I move on to after this course?

On successful completion you will achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating. You can then advance onto a Level 3 qualification in gas or oil which will meet the requirements of either Gas Safe or Oftec registration.
