Course programme
The course has been structured around four themes: Health and Well-Being, Legislation, Frameworks and Professional Practice, Play, Development and Learning for School Readiness, Professional Development. Each of these themes consists of a number of study units, of which you must complete 27.
- You must have four GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English Language and Maths). Alternatively, you can have a Level 2 qualification in Child Care or Health and Social Care at Merit level.
- You must have two satisfactory references, one evidencing at least two weeks' experience working with children under 7. Please be aware that this course involves a lot of self-directed study.
- You will also need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check which costs approximately £50 but it is free if you will be under 19 years old.
This Diploma is awarded on successful completion of all units, an attendance record of at least 80 per cent and successful completion of the practical evidence record.
This qualification licences you to practice as an Early Years Educator, qualifying you for roles in Day Nurseries, Nursery Schools, Pre-Schools and Reception Classes in Primary Schools.
You can also progress to a Higher Education qualification such as the BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.
