The course was revised in April 2008 in order to meet current changes in Early Years settings and is awarded by the University of Chester.

    Practice Based Enquiry, Personal & Collaborative Learning, Promoting Positive Relationships, Safeguarding Children, The Developing Child, Play in the Early Years, Children's Health & Well-being, Special Needs & Inclusion and Communication.
  • Who is suited to the course?
    You will: be working in a registered Early Years setting, have or are working towards a level 3 qualification in childcare, wish to work towards Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • How is the course assessed?
    You will be assessed by a variety of methods, these may include the following; written assignments and reports, group presentations, formative assessments and peer assessment / feedback.
  • Work based learning?
    In order to meet the requirements of the course you will need to be working full or part-time with young children in an Early Years setting - in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • What equipment or resources might I need?
    No specialised equipment is needed, just general stationery.
  • Progression routes after course
    You can progress to teacher training, full BA (Hons) Degree or Early Years Professional status at university. To enter the teacher training you need GCSE grade C or equivalent in Maths, English and Science.
