Is the course for me?
This is a very interesting and exciting course that aims to develop your knowledge, understanding and practical expertise required when working with children from birth upwards. This course incorporates the National occupational standards in child care. You will achieve a professional award that enables you to work in a supervisory capacity across a wide range of child care environments, or to progress into Higher Education.

What will I learn?
In your two years at Warrington Collegiate you will study a range of units. The main core units help you examine a range of subjects that allow you to work effectively with children in practice including; positive environments; positive relationships; child development and child protection. You will also complete units that require you to plan and observe children in a range of settings, and to reflect on your practice. A range of specialist units will also be studied which support the core units. A significant amount of this course is spent in work placements with children aged 0 - 8 years. A clean Criminal Records Background Check is required and should be completed as soon as you commence on the course and prior to work placement. Students on the course wear a uniform and the initial cost is approximately £15 per uniform.

How will I be assessed?
This course is continually assessed using a range of methods for example: observations, activities and written assignments.

What can I do after the course?
You can progress into a range of careers working with children e.g. Nursery Nurse or Classroom Assistant. You could also progress into higher education and study to become a teacher.
