The ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) is the world’s largest and fastest growing certification of Basic IT skills. Along with the ICDL, its international version, there are over 2 million people participating in training and testing in 58 countries worldwide. In fact, the European Commission recently issued a recommendation for the ECDL to be accepted as a Europe-wide Basic IT accreditation scheme. The ECDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a basic qualification in ICT; Basic Knowledge of I.T is essential. ECDL Extra is also known as BCS IT user Level 2 (iTQ).

Course programme

The course is quite intense and covers the following Modules.
Requires the student to demonstrate the ability to use a word processing application on a personal computer, he or she shall understand and be able to accomplish basic operations associated with creating, formatting and finishing a word processing document ready for distribution. The student shall demonstrate competence in using some of the more advanced features associated with word processing applications such as creating standard tables, using pictures and images within a document, importing objects and using mail merge tools.
Requires the student to understand the basic concepts of spreadsheets and to demonstrate the ability to use a spreadsheet application on a personal computer, he or she shall understand and be able to accomplish basic operations associated with developing, formatting and using a spreadsheet. The student shall be able to accomplish standard mathematical and logical operations using basic formulas and functions. The student shall demonstrate competence in using some of the more advanced features of spreadsheet application such as importing objects, and creating graphs and charts.
Requires the student to demonstrate competence in using presentation tools on a personal computer and be able to accomplish basic tasks such as creating, formatting and preparing presentations for distribution and display. The student shall demonstrate the ability to create a variety of presentations for different target audiences or situations and accomplish basic operations with graphics and charts and to use various slide show effects.
Is divided in two sections, the first section, Performance, requires the student to plan how to carry out tasks using IT to achieve the required purpose and outcome, and Develop solutions to improve own productivity in using IT. The second section, Knowledge, requires the student to demonstrate their understanding of the use of ICT, covering aspects of any legal or local guidelines or constraints that may apply to the task and discussing whether the IT tools selected were appropriate for the task and purpose, also knowledge of good practice when using IT applications.
The course runs for 2 hrs a week over 30 weeks on an evening attendance basis. You will be expected to complete homework to ensure successful completion. Assessment is on-line module tests at the end of each module. A pass mark of 75% is required in each module. Resit fees may apply.
It is highly recommended that that you have reasonably sound basic IT skills.
