Effective Manager - CMI Level 5

Leading to Chartered Management Institute Award in Leadership and Management Level 5

Are you an experienced manager who wants to improve your knowledge and develop your skills as a manager? Do you want to be able to do your job more effectively, get better results from your team and make a valued contribution to your company? This course focuses on helping you improve your capability as an effective manager.

You can choose whether or not to do the additional work which will help you achieve a management qualification from the Chartered Management Institute. To complete the Award successfully, you need to complete a workbook to help you apply your new skills back at work and write a 2,000 word work-based assignment.

This course involves four separate one day workshops over four weeks

Day 1 – Being the Leader

This workshop helps you understand more about your role as the leader of your team: You will cover the following topics:

  • What it means to be a middle manager
  • Understand the importance of middle managers in helping your company achieve its goals
  • The manager’s role in planning, organising, motivating and controlling teams
  • Why it is important to take the lead
  • Examine the differences between being a manager and being a leader
  • Explore different leadership styles and what they mean for you and your role
  • Learn better ways to lead, motivate and gain commitment from others

Day 2 – Leading Teams

This workshop will help you explore what you need to do to develop and lead your team. You will cover the following topics:

  • Explore the difference between a group and a team
  • Examine different team behaviours and roles within teams
  • The importance of direction and values in creating an effective team
  • Developing individuals and teams
  • Your role in managing the relationship between individual and team performance
  • Leading teams successfully

Day 3 – Understanding How Businesses Operate

This workshop will help you understand how businesses operate and the importance of your role as a manager and leader. You will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding your organisation in relation to the external market place
  • Explore different organisational cultures
  • The importance of being aware and analyzing the internal and external environments
  • Using SWOT ( Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis to understand your organisation
  • Using PESTLE ( Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental and Legal) analysis to understand the environment and influences on your company

Day 4 – Leading Innovation and Change

This workshop will help you explore what you need to do to lead innovation and change in your company. You will cover the following topics:

  • Why businesses need to develop and change
  • The importance of effective management of change
  • The effects of change on people
  • Using communication to lead change effectively
  • Organising and co-coordinating planned change
  • Your role in leading continuous improvement

Qualification
This 4 day programme is accredited by CMI (Chartered Management Institute) and leads to an Award in Leadership and Management - Level 5. To obtain the qualification, you must complete a written assignment related to your work and various short individual work – based exercises throughout the course. Full details of the requirements will be provided during the introductory session

About this workshop

  • This workshop will involve you in a mixture of interactive exercises and discussion. There will be opportunities to practise your new skills through role playing exercises in a supportive atmosphere
  • Our trainers are experts in their topic and deliver courses in a practical, interactive style
  • The maximum number of people on a training course is 12 so that the trainer can accommodate the learning needs of each delegate
  • A two course buffet lunch and unlimited tea and coffee are included in the price

Timing
Courses start at 9.30am and end at 4.30pm with half an hour for lunch.

Support available
If your business is located in the West of Scotland you may be eligible for a grant of up to 50% of the cost of participating in these courses. There are a number of places available which are reserved for businesses with less than 250 employees and companies must meet certain eligibility criteria.
