This course is for Intermediate learners of English who want to improve their English language skills and gain a recognised qualification.

What are the entry requirements?
KET pass, pass at ESOL Skills for Life Entry Level 2, or pass at initial assessment/interview. Reading: you should be able to understand the main points and some details of a variety of short factual texts. Writing: you should be able to complete a short writing task, showing reasonable control of vocabulary, spelling and punctuation. Listening: you need to be able to understand and respond to short converstaions and talks on a range of everyday topics. Speaking: you must be able to ask for help, give factual information, express feelings and opinions, and take part in everyday social interactions.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.

What qualification will I receive?
University of Cambridge Certificates in ESOL Skills for Life Entry Level 3: Reading Mode, Writing Mode, and Speaking & Listening Mode.

Where can it lead?
It will improve job prospects and enable you to progress to the next language level and/or other appropriate courses.

What will I study?
You will develop and practise all the language skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will also work on grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.

How will I be taught?
You will have to buy a coursebook and workbook. In addition your teachers will use a variety of learning materials and classroom activities. Daytime courses may the use of computers. All students are encouraged to use the library (Learning Resources Centre), which has a large selection of books, tapes, CDs, videos and CD-roms to help you with your studies. Free access to language websites on the Internet is also available.

How will I be assessed?
You will have regular homework, progress tests and a mock examination a few weeks before the final examinations.

What support is available while I am on the course?
Your teachers will be able to help and advise you during your course, which includes at least one personal tutorial per course (10-hour course only). The college offers a comprehensive range of student services including careers guidance.
