This is the level 3 technical certificate for electrical installation learners which runs alongside the level 3 NVQ for those working in the electrical industry. About the course:
This is the level 3 technical certificate for electrical installation learners which runs alongside the level 3 NVQ for those working in the electrical industry. The course is a combination of theory lessons in the classroom and practical sessions in purpose built workshops where learners will undertake all aspects of inspection, fault diagnosis, rectification testing, and commissioning electrical installations. Electrical science, on site procedure, site legislation and health & safety will also be covered. Regular checking and assessment of learners will be carried out in order to maintain progress.
Course Content:
The award consists of 3 units:
- Application of health and safety and electrical principles
- Installation (Buildings and Structures) Inspection, Testing and Commissioning
- Installation (Buildings and Structures) Fault Diagnosis and Rectification.
The following key skills may also be studied:
- Application of Number level 2
- Communication level 2
- Information Technology level 1
Equipment Requirements:
City College supply all the technical equipment to complete the course. All learners are required to supply their own work shoes/boots suitable for all workshiop activities and adequate paper, pens, rulers, scientific calculator, on site guide, IEE 17ed Regulations BS7671 and text book to be able to participate in theory lessons.
Assessment:
Unit 301 is assessed by means of an online multi choice test. Units 302 & 303 are each assessed by means of a 2 hour written exam. There is also a 2 day practical assignment in the work shop where students will carry out a complete testing, inspection and fault finding exercise on a purpose built installation/rig.

Additional Information:
Attendance - day release or two evenings per week. If you are on a qualifying means tested benefit the tuition fees for some courses can be reduced, however you will still need to pay for Exams and Administration costs.You must claim tuition fee remission with proof before enrolment.
Enrolment Instructions:
No interview is required to enrol on this course if you are progressing from level 2. However, if you are a new student the Engineering Team will need to discuss the course with you before enrolling.
