Emergency First Aid Entry level, Part time

General information

This certificate is designed for those who require knowledge of managing emergency situations whether in the workplace or in the home. This course is therefore suitable for employees who are going to be the nominated 'Appointed Person First Aider' in the workplace, or someone who would like a comprehensive introduction to Emergency First Aid.
HSE First Aid Guidelines state that low risk (shops, offices etc) premises employing fewer than 50 staff should have at least one appointed person first aider. For medium risk (food processing, printing, warehousing, light engineering etc) premises employing fewer than 20 staff there should be at least one appointed person first aider. For high risk (construction, chemical manufacture, dangerous machinery etc) premises employing fewer than 5 staff there should be at least one appointed person First Aider.

Course content
This course will cover the following topics:

• Dealing with accidents and illness
• Using a First Aid kit
• Simple record keeping
• First Aid priorities
• Resuscitation
• Treatment of an unconscious casualty
• Treatment of a heart attack
• Control of bleeding and shock
• Common workplace and 'in the home' injuries

Teaching and assessment
After successfully completing the course you will receive a certificate of attendance. It is recommended that you renew this training every three years.
