Overview

Entry Requirements
It would be desirable if you have achieved four GCSEs at grades A-C, including English, science and maths; the Engineering Training Advisor will be happy to discuss this with you. You will also need to be employed in the Engineering industry, if you aren’t, its still worthwhile applying as Stockport College may be able to help you to find suitable employment. You need to be aware that without employment in this area a place on the course cannot be obtained. All students undergo a comprehensive initial assessment.
Course Duration
Apprenticeship – 2 years (year 1 is PEO and year 2 is VRQ).
Skills and Benefits
When you complete your Level 2 Apprenticeship, you will gain three qualifications with the EAL Awarding body: NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations – (PEO) Intermediate Technical Certificate in Engineering at Level 2 – (VRQ) Functional Skills qualifications at Level 1 in English and maths Please note: exemptions may be allowed if you have studied these at an appropriate level before and have achieved a GCSE grade of A to C.

Working Safely in an Engineering Environment (Health & Safety) Carrying out Engineering activities/techniques efficiently and effectively Using and Communicating Technical Information & Principles

Fitting Machining (Turning or/and Milling) Welding (MIG, MAG, MMA & TIG) Sheet metal Plate work operations Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) Electrical Pathways
Course Assessment
Competence to carry out the whole range of tasks and is assessed as the course progresses. Underpinning knowledge is proved by way of verbal and written questioning.
Progression
You could progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship, which would include the achievement of a NVQ Level 3, a Technical Certificate at Level 3 and Functional Skills English, maths & IT at Level 2. You could also go into industry.
