Course programme

We will focus on ways of abstracting from the figure by studying the model and developing an interpretation through a series of drawings and small 3 D sketches. We will explore sculptural aspects of the pose through drawing by taking away some traditional elements and then re-building it based on your own observations and drawings to create a small scale personal sculpture. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and analysis of your work.

We will look at examples of other artist’s work who are exploring the subject.

Additional information

The sculpture department offers a programme of courses that will allow you to progress from beginner to advanced as well as learn a range of techniques. For example, you may like to progress onto VU841 the City Sculpture course that helps you to build an individual sculpture practice or join a short course specialising in a particular approach or skill such as Prop making or Carving in wood or stone. Please ask your tutor for advice. General information and advice on courses at City Lit is available from the Student Centre and Library on Monday to Friday from 12:00 – 19:00.
