{if "<p>This course will provide the opportunity to develop a broad range of relevant skills for di"} How is the course taught?

This course will provide the opportunity to develop a broad range of relevant skills for different types of fashion, editorial and media with an aim to cultivate creativity and individual style and awareness of culture and beauty trends globally. There is a focus on fashion because advancement in products and technologies means that success lies in being skilled in this rapidly advancing field of make-up, reflecting the demands of the industry as it is today and on a global market place.

Refurbished facilities including a purpose built studio with full access to a photographic studio with professional lighting equipment, means that students will be industry ready and able to build a professional portfolio whilst experimenting with their skills and techniques.

Valuable industry knowledge is gained throughout the course through an experienced teaching team with a wide range of industry backgrounds. Visits from guest speakers from the fashion world will be provided and this will enable students to gain worthwhile insight into the different areas of the fashion and editorial sector.

Work experience is strongly supported with opportunities both internally through collaborative projects with the college’s media and photography programmes, and externally through partnerships with professional photographers and other institutions such as charity event fashion shows. Students will have opportunities to see and evaluate their work through their experience gained on fashion shows and events as well as through collaboration with professional and student photographers.

The industry based modules; Freelance Strategy, Industry Practice and Professional Identity all underpin the students’ industry knowledge by ensuring that specific aspects are addressed and contextualised to the industry. This is supported by relevant visits to fashion events such as Clothes Show Live and engagement in work experience and community fashion events and shows.

The module Freelance Strategy aims to develop the student’s independent approach and initiative when approaching a career within the fashion industry. Fostering communication with industry professionals within this area of industry, as well as model agencies, professional photographers and production companies will allow the students to start to develop their network. Developing and engaging in social media will allow students to share their work and develop their professional image.

The Industry Practice is a work related learning module which allows students to work with an industry professional on a live brief or choose to engage in work experience gained independently utilising the network developed during the Freelance Strategy Module.

Professional Identity is a work related module which allows the student to develop their professional mission statement, artistic direction for their professional profile and image. This would include management of their professional portfolio, web site, blog design, promotional materials and social media output.

Students will investigate and develop the necessary practical and theoretical skills to become a make-up artist as well as develop technical, application and professional skills alongside conceptual initiatives.

Through the connection with Habia International, the College is able to offer students access to opportunities to engage with Japanese make-up artistry students either through access to International competitions if available and visits from Japanese students and reputable make-up artists.
