Filming and Post production workflow on RED for the TV industry

This 4 day in-depth RED technology course covers all aspects of setting up and filming on a Red camera as well as an in depth look at the post production workflow and use of the Red’s file formats. The course also covers communication with production staff, deliverables, workflow planning and project and data organisation. The course will also compare working with the RED verses working with 35mm and the advantages and disadvantages of using RED in film production.

You will come away form the course having gained and in depth understanding of:

* How is the RED camera is different from other digital and film cameras
* The difference between shooting formats, 4k, 2k, SD, HD and how they compare with film.
* How the RED camera works, a technical overview.
* How to configure a RED camera and the various accessory options. This includes equipment needed for both large and small productions.
* How to shoot on a RED. This includes exposure, focus, how RED responds to different lighting conditions, frame rates, aspect ratios and a deep understanding of the benefits and constraints of the RED camera.
* RED lens options and how the RED performs with various lenses.
* Recording audio on a RED camera and other ways to record audio on location.
* RED firmware. An in depth knowledge of the menu set up options and when to use each set up.
* The role and importance of the digital image technician on a shoot and how they work with the DOP and other production and pre production staff.
* How the storage options work on the RED and working with RED media on location. This includes how to manage digital media.
* Critical analysis of RED footage on location, what to look for as regard to exposure and digital artefacts.
* The post production workflow of RED footage including the use of proxy files, transcoding, the dos and don’ts of media management, common workflow mistakes, and the grading and editing RED footage.
* What can be achieved with the manipulation of RED RAW footage in post production and working with RED proxy files. How RED media is used in digital editing suites.

A RED Camera and a variety of lenses will be on hand to allow all delegates experience of operating the camera. Additional hardware (lighting, microphones, screens, etc) will also be available. 

All post production workflow will be demonstrated on industry-standard hardware and software. Each delegate will have their own iMac workstation fully equipped with all software packages needed.
